You know the drill. King is gone, evil takes over and you have to stop it. From having a weak story, this game recovers nicely. With just enough sub-plots to keep you interested, you almost forget the cliched story.

In 1994 this game was quite a revolution, using high quality sound and graphics. Compared to other popular tomb and tunnel games of the time (Ultima, Wizardry) Lands of Lore blows them out of the water. Actually being able to hear enemies crawling through the swamp behind you is a treat.

One of the things that makes this game so fun is how easy it is to play. You have basic Auto-map and compass features to help you move around. Every movement you need is clearly marked. The fighting controls get a little frustrating at times but not nearly as badly as Ultima.

A nice thing about playing is that you pick up characters along the way, instead of selecting all characters at the beginning. This is useful because sometimes the characters get annoying(yes, they all have different personality traits) and you really want them to go away.

Overall Lands of Lore deserves a good play. Its fun and nice to look at; but really it's a good game for what it is. I find that there is a lack of female characters and lack of personal attatchment to the game. When it ends you don't go,'Gee, I'm really gonna miss Cyrus.' It just ends and you go buy the sequel. .. You really want to here Patrick Stewart as the king!

The Dark Army is on the move again, led by the evil sorceress Scotia. Her goal is obvious: To destroy Gladstone Keep and its inhabitant King Richard. Scotia herself has recently become more powerful after acquiring 'the Mask' from the Urban Mines, gaining the ability to shape shift.
